Courtney Houston received her education at Slippery Rock University, completing her
bachelor’s degree in Communication. She had the pleasure and opportunity to work with the on-
campus television station, given the privilege of working behind the scenes, helping to create
multiple television shows that were broadcasted throughout the campus. Also, as a part of the
broadcasting team Ms. Houston was able to host her own television show, entitled “Girls Talk
Too” which covered issues young adults face daily. To end her production experience during
college, she was also a part of the University Program Board that brought many known artists to
the campus for major concerts, including famous acts such as Drake and Fabolous. Working with
the concerts gave Courtney the knowledge and insight on what it takes to plan for a major event,
manage finances for a business budget, and the importance of being organized for proper
execution events.
In Ohio, The Youngstown Television Station, WKBN-27 poured into Ms. Houston
more experience that enhanced her production skills. The television station exposed her to live
broadcasting events, like “Academic Challenge”, a knowledge-based competition in which
several local middle schools vie for a championship trophy; and the popular television show
“American Idol” where she registered contestants and assisted them with selecting music for
their performances.
In 2011, the Youngstown Radio Station, 101.9 JAMZ presented Courtney with an
opportunity to write a segment in their annual event, “The Women of Color Expo,” which helped
inspire women of all ages. As a result of the event, which was hosted by radio personality T-
Luv, Ms. Houston was given exposure on the local Youngstown television show “The
Community Connection,” hosted by Madonna Chisholm, which discussed her poems and what
inspired them.
In 2014, Ms. Houston completed her online master’s degree at Full Sail University in
the Entertainment Business Program. She plans on using this degree to build her production
company; with its sole purpose is to address real situations with a positive message with hopes to
inspire individuals around the world.
In 2018, Shadowing Pros was founded with the purpose and passion for
entrepreneurs, and individuals who have passion and desire to work in the entertainment
industry, in front or behind the camera. Houston's goal is to create an atmosphere where she
can educate, inspire, and connect individuals towards their passion in the entertainment industry
through Theater, Film and Music. Ms. Houston has a strong belief in the power of mentorship
and shadowing, and she strives to create avenues for the underserved communities that will
provide those opportunities.
Now and in the future, Courtney’s passion and desire will be to communicate
inspiration, hope, education, advocacy, and networking opportunities to the audience of Shadowing Pros.
