Meet David L David, the creator and founder of Ego Trippin’ Apparel was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens, NY. David is the 2nd oldest of 4 children. He was very active in sports playing little league baseball, football and basketball as a
youth. Growing up David had many aspirations, at one point he wanted to become an attorney but as life would have it and after attending a local liberal arts college, David decided he wanted to work for himself.
He became a mortgage professional and was very successful for over 20 years. In 2008 the market crashed, he closed his offices and began Spinback Entertainment and promoted some of the biggest concerts in the Tri-State Area.
In 2010 David decided to go into designing and hence Ego Trippin’ Apparel was born. Ego Trippin’ started moderately with T-shirts, hats and hoodies where people from
the hip hop community started wearing the fashionable collection.
In 2011 David was asked by The Jam Master Jay Foundation to create and produce the official Jam Master Jay Tee. Interview by Classic Flavors. Ego Trippin’ has appeared on various TV shows including the Hot Spot on
Fox, Music Videos like 2 Step Nice and Smooth and on 106 and Park with the help of friend and super photographer Ronnie Wright. The Celebrities that has donned the collection are The Jacksons, Anthony Anderson {Blackish}, Play {Kid n Play}, Chubb Rock, Rob Base, DJ Diamond, Nice and Smooth, Joe Ski Love, Eva Pigford {RHOA}, Kid Capri, DJ Kev Ski, Dr. Bob Lee {WBLS},
Kool DJ Red Alert, Ernest Thomas, {What's Happening and Everybody Hates Chris}, Danielle Spencer David {What's Happening} and BowLegged Lou {Full Force} wore Ego Trippin’ during the Essence Awards. David later created a collection for his wife at the time, actress Danielle Spencer-David who played (Dee Thomas on What's Happening) called the Dani Collection. Ego Trippin’ Apparel was in 7 stores across NY and NJ and has been sold online. With the success of the apparel company David pursued other interests.
In 2013 David suffered a spine injury from NJ Transit bus accident it was during his recovery he found a passion for photography and decided to purse a professional career as a celebrity photographer which also aspired to be a successful business for the entrepreneur. In 2015 David also found an interest in pattern making and took private pattern lessons from Hyi Lim in Pikesville, Maryland, he taught himself to sew and began David L David designs, where he designs women’s custom dresses, jackets, skirts and shirts.
David had other business ventures such as a podcast called Living with Danielle & David in 2016 where he partnered with Danielle Spencer-David as they interviewed many actors and entertainers such as Demond Wilson {Sanford & Son}, Reginald Hayes, Rodney Allen Rippy Lorena Stewart {Klymaxx}, Joe Ski Love {Pee Wees Dance}, Rappers MC Shan and Special Ed, Debbie Sledge {Sister Sledge} and many more.
In 2018 David was encouraged by his childhood friend Kubbi, other friends and clients who love the brand to relaunch Ego Trippin’ Apparel, and with some moderate convincing David gave the brand a new look mixed with the same classic style of 2010.
Currently in 2022, David is working on his autobiography which he is hoping to release in 2023. David would like to thank Carmen and everyone who has supported him throughout his business ventures. There will be much more to come so stay tuned.
